What is a Catheter?
A catheter is a flexible tube inserted into the bladder to drain urine. It is commonly used for patients who have difficulty urinating naturally, such as those with urinary retention, neurological disorders, or following surgery. Catheterization can be temporary or long-term, depending on the patient’s medical condition. We offer two types of catheters: Condom Catheter (CBD) for male patients and Urinary Catheters for both male and female patients.

Types of Catheters We Offer
-
Condom Catheter (CBD)
The condom catheter, also known as an external catheter, is a non-invasive device used for male patients. It is worn like a condom over the penis and is attached to a drainage bag. This type of catheter is ideal for men who experience incontinence but can still urinate naturally, and it eliminates the need for an invasive insertion into the bladder. -
Indwelling Catheter (Foley Catheter)
An indwelling catheter is inserted into the bladder through the urethra, and it remains in place for a longer period. It is attached to a drainage bag that collects urine. This catheter is commonly used for patients with chronic conditions or during recovery from surgery. -
Intermittent Catheter (In and Out Catheter)
This type of catheter is inserted into the bladder to drain urine and then removed immediately after the bladder is emptied. It is used intermittently throughout the day for patients who have difficulty emptying their bladder but do not need continuous catheterization.
NGT Insertion Method – What to Expect
-
Assessment and Preparation
Before the insertion, our healthcare professional will assess the patient’s condition to ensure that an NGT is appropriate. The patient’s medical history and any underlying conditions will also be reviewed. The necessary equipment, including the NGT, lubricant, and pH strips for stomach content confirmation, will be prepared.
-
Patient Positioning
The patient will be positioned sitting upright or with the head elevated to facilitate smooth tube passage and reduce the risk of discomfort. This position also ensures that the tube is safely guided down the esophagus.
-
Tube Lubrication and Insertion
The tube will be lubricated with a water-based gel for easier insertion. The healthcare professional will gently guide the tube through one of the nostrils, down the throat, and into the stomach. The process is done with great care to minimize discomfort, and the patient may be asked to swallow during the procedure to aid in guiding the tube down the esophagus.
-
Confirmation of Placement
Once the tube is inserted, the placement will be confirmed by checking the pH of stomach contents or through auscultation (listening to the stomach with a stethoscope) to ensure the tube is in the correct position.
-
Securing the Tube
After the correct placement is confirmed, the tube will be secured with adhesive tape to the side of the nose, ensuring it remains in place. Proper instructions for daily management and care will be provided to the patient and caregivers
